Man & Vineyard

Șiria, the Untamed Land

Wine is not just alcohol, but it is so much more

There is no man without a place and every place makes little sense to most people without a man to give it life. Wine is witness to this natural alliance, which aspires to be perfect in its continuous mutability.

Șiria is a fascinating place, where the wind caresses the vineyard, where agricultural activity has always marked the landscape and culture. Walking through the countryside - here well cultivated, there wild -, hearing your own footsteps echoing along the paths, among the increasingly silent trees, seeing the old traditions revived in the village festivals, witnessing the important events of life that goes on, listening to the echo of the facts of the world in the mouth of the bar-goers. A rural and still particular civilization, far from the global noises that confuse everything.

Time. The biggest challenge for a winegrower. To measure oneself in one's limited time with the non-commensurable scale of one's territory, vineyard, and wines. Being obliged to put a full stop every year when you would like to postpone instead, continuing to hope for something more. To give a necessarily partial but inevitable interpretation. To put your own small, iridescent bookmark among the memories of your place

The vineyard

Raising a vineyard, in particular a young vineyard, means having to take into account a high degree of variability, between one plot and another, between one plant and another, having many similarities to the governance of human populations. Management difficulties arise from this variability, but at the same time differentiated and fresh energies. Each vine is an individual, with its characteristics, its small vices, and its ability to give the best if carefully listened to. And it is precisely the ability to listen that is the most important attitude for the winegrower: listening to nature in his territory, to its delicate yet robust balances, listening to the general buzz of the vine population, intimate listening to the silent voice of every single vine; starting from that sort of propitiatory dance of the expert pruner during the winter months, which harmonizes the knowledge of the single plant with the naturalness of interpretation and the discontinuity of the rhythms of consciousness.

The grapevine, like a teenagechild, challenges you every time to show it whether you are really interested in it or whether you are just a distracted spectator.

Organic viticulture

It is a type of viticulture that we consider to be more respectful of the environment. We do not use synthetic chemicals, and this exercise without a safety net requires an incresed attention to good agricultural practices, both traditional and modern.

We are not among the lucky ones who always go well with ease, because organic viticulture is not easy. Sometimes, despite the wind that helps us, and all the attention, we happen to lose part of the harvest, thus sacrificing part one year’s production to protect the environment of these beautiful hills, which have never seen chemical products.

Natural wine

Fruit of the vine and of the work of man. It is common knowledge. With a good and ripe grape as starting point, grown naturally, the good wine is only an occasional evolutionary state of transition.

Knowing and respecting nature and its transformations allow us to guide them with the minimum intervention towards a lasting result, tasteful, without imposing.

This wine is simply what we consider natural.
